Edcon kicks off four new store openings in Potchefstroom's Mooi River Shopping Centre with soccer tournament
22 April 2008
Prior to launching four new stores - Edgars, Jet, CNA and Legit - in Potchefstroom.
Edcon ensured it was no ordinary day for the inhabitants of the nearby Ikageng Township who were treated to a soccer tournament involving schools in the area Saturday 19 April 2008. Edcon, as the official 2010 merchandise partner with 2010 concept stores in Eastgate and Sandton, donated soccer kit, boots and balls to each of the 16 schools listed below.
The tournament and donation of soccer kits was organised by Edcon in tandem with the Dreamfields Foundation as testament to Edcons commitment to the community they were now joining, said Mpho Makwana, Edcons Group Transformation Executive. We are proud to have teamed up with the Dreamfields Foundation in the launch of its first project in this area and we see this as a commitment to making a positive contribution to peoples lives, Makwana said.
Dreamfields, instituted by former SABC-presenter John Perlman, aims to make 2010 a vehicle for change. Through the foundation, partner sponsors upgrade or build new soccer fields, provide kit for teams or bring coaching programmes and sports management skills to local communities.
Edcon stores will be opening on the 30th April in the Mooi River Shoppoing Centre. The company will be investing considerable resources in the region, opening stores covering a total 5452m (Edgars - 3831m, Jet 1013m, Legit 200m, CNA 408m), with Jet and Legit housing their full assortments including the cellular product line. Dan Tloome Primary school won Saturdays tournament and as a further gesture of goodwill, CNA has provided vouchers to all of the participating schools to the value of R1500 each for stationery and/or book purchases.
